Desk of Shirley: We are excited. to have started a program called the Benno
P. Berens Humanitiarian Award which will be given out to those unsung
heroes that gave their lives to help and protect families and children.
This is in remembrance of my father Benno P. Berens. Read his biography
here. We will have a dinner each year on September 11th, the day my
father passed away, to give 12 families an award for a deceased member
of their family who has been nominated."

It is open to all pregnant and parenting teens, male and female, who are enrolled in any program at West HS. The new coordinator for 2009-2010 is Janet Benson, LCSW, who is in her office in room 227F in the West HS Counseling Center every Monday and Wednesday. One can call JB at 720-423-5322. Teen Parent Program (TPP) classes are held weekly during student lunch on Monday in room 127. Bring your lunch and get academic credit for good attendance. TPP students have to complete an intake with JB in order to be eligible for the diaper incentive; show proof of ten days in a row of excellent attendance and earn a pack of free diapers. Classes will feature local resources for child care assistance, parent and baby health issues, planning maternity leaves, child development, and responses to issues that the students bring. In spring semester we look forward to hosting Ms. Shirley Berens, Founder of the Grandparents Resource Center, who is a legal expert in the field of child custody and grandparents' rights in Colorado. |
